February 2023 Fourth Friday – Spain

Carlos Rivero came to the United States from his native Spain in 1972 and worked in the Steel Mills in Gary until 1985 when he launched his dream restaurant, Don Quijote, in downtown Valparaiso.  Elena Jambrina, Carlos’s fellow Spaniard, joined him in 1990.  Together, the partners have made Don Quijote Restaurant one of the premier restaurants in Northwest Indiana.

Heralded as one of Valparaiso’s pillar citizens, Carlos Rivero, was the featured speaker at the February Fourth Friday Speaker Series on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valparaiso.

Carlos’s related his journey from restauranteur in Spain, Steel Mill worker in the US and outstanding entrepreneur and philanthropist in Valparaiso.  Carlos entertained with humor, facts and a bit of fun and treated our crowd of more than 100 to a sampling of Spanish cuisine.
