MARISA GARCIA-VERDUGO was born and raised in Caceres, in the west of Spain.  She came to the USA in 1986 to work on her master’s degree at Michigan State University.  She later received her PhD from SUNY-Albany.  She taught at several colleges and universities, including Purdue Northwest, where she is now Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Political Science, Economics and World Languages and Cultures.  Marisa and her two adult daughters live in Valparaiso.

She and her daughter Carmen discussed the culture and diversity of their native Spain, with special emphasis on their home region of Extremurada.  The Uruguayan rock band Exit provided musical entertainment prior the the presentation.  Don Quijote Restaurant provided Spanish treats to sample.
