Volunteer speaks about Land of Fire

VALPARAISO | A recent Peace Corps volunteer introduced an audience to The Land of Fire on Friday evening at the Valparaiso International Center. In its 4th Friday series, Mary Kaczka, a 30-year resident of Porter County, recounted her 27-month experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Azerbaijan. Kaczka said the country, which traces its history back 5,000 years, is called the Land of Fire because of “fire that would come up from the ground” from natural gas and oil resources in the land.
