We would like to welcome you to "the Welcome Mat" a fair-trade, non-profit store run by the Valparaiso International Center. On July 15th, The Valparaiso International Center will be launching an exciting new initiative: The Welcome Mat!
 The Welcome Mat is a fair trade home goods store which will be operated out of the VIC’s current location. The Welcome Mat will be bring socially and sustainable products from Peru, Thailand, Kenya, India, Mexico, Vietnam, Indonesia, and many more here to Northwest Indiana! Items will be similar to those sold at this past December’s Holiday Bazaar, but on a much larger scale. Why do we care about fair-Trade? “Fair trade” prevents abuse or manipulation of the artisan, ensures that the artisan that crafted the good is paid fair and livable wages, and the items are socially and environmentally sustainable. This boosts the artisan’s local economy and promotes sustainable living. Even the smallest purchase can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors abroad. The VIC is truly fortunate to be able to provide Northwest Indiana with the opportunity to aid artisans, developing economies We are very excited to unveil The Welcome Mat during a soft opening on July 15 and grand opening in September.
